Simple Physics
There are several things that amaze me in this random photo I found on the net:
One of them, is that the guy seems almost indifferent to the the rather unusual (and unexpected?) event that takes place just in front of his face. The woman, on the other hand, seems bummed, startled and embarrassed – all the the same time. Maybe it’s because women are more open about their emotions. Or maybe it’s just because she has threatening amounts of glass-shards and beer particles coming her way.

I like this photo; and you’re right, there are some oddities here.
The one mentioned is easy enough, he already downed one mug, which also explains the miscalculated momentum for a toast. His must have been the cause since most of his beer has already landed on the girl while her drink has just splashed back & forward again to form that neat fountain jet effect above her mug.
I believe the debris that appears to be flying off in the wrong direction has glanced off her mug and is actually coming towards the camera.
This must have been an important event for the toast to be photographed; I hope they sent that food back and limited the damage to red face & wet clothes. evo
